Assessment is the first step in reducing the risks of a manual handling
task. This is to establish the level of risk, and then advice can be given
to reduce the risks. This may involve redesign of the task or work and
use of lifting aids. Manual Handling training can also be provided giving
specific advice for the individual tasks.
David has advised the Royal Mail on their manual handling training programme.
He has undertaken many manual handling assessments within the Royal Mail.
Even if the work area does not in involve computers or manual handling, there are still risks attached to poor posture, awkward movements, or the environment such as the lighting, heating, noise levels. Ergonomic assessments can be conducted in any work area to reduce the risks of injury and absenteeism, improve job satisfaction and potentially increase productivity.
David Annett has many years of experience working for the Royal Mail including
projects on how staff interact with state-of-the-art sorting machines,
through to the evaluation and development of delivery trolleys and sorting
frames. He has also worked at Hampton Court Palace where he advised on
reducing the risks for staff in the Textile Conservation Studio where
they worked on tapestries and rugs, as well as the design of their new
ticket hall.
Whatever the work, ergonomics principals can be applied. Please contact
David if you would like to discuss how ergonomics can help your particular
work environment.
